Dizziness

Dizziness, Vertigo, and Balance Disorders

Dizziness is one of the most common complaints heard by physicians, after headache and lower back pain. It is the primary reason people over 70 visit their physicians. Balance-related falls account for more than half of all accidental deaths in the elderly and is responsible for a considerable number of hip fractures every year in people over 65. Imbalance and vertigo can affect a person’s ability to stand and walk, to see clearly, to read, to watch television, to make decisions, and to think clearly. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common type of vertigo. It is often provoked by a change in head position, such as rolling over in bed and lasts seconds to minutes.

Brenda Tullio, Doctor of Audiology, is specially trained in the assessment and treatment of vertigo and balance disorders. To find out if you are a candidate for this type of treatment, please contact The Ear Clinic and request a questionnaire for dizziness. Once completed, Brenda will review your questionnaire and we will contact you to arrange an appointment. The assessment and treatment are very gentle and involve moving your head and body through a series of specific positions. Treatment may cause a sensation of motion that may linger. For this reason, we will ask that you arrange to have someone accompany you to and from your appointment or to plan your day to allow you to remain in the office 15 to 30 minutes after your appointment should symptoms linger.
